A report from McMaster University, point out the fact that stressed conditions faced at neonatal stage developed high amounts of stress hormone that promoted depression and anxiety in adulthood. Further investigation revealed that the stress hormones triggered changes in bacteria colonizing the gut and these bacteria developed depression and anxiety in adults. When these bacteria were removed from the gut, the condition was improved substantially.
